Edited by: Dimitri Forgroth on 14/11/2005 22:47:01 First off, the change on SiSi appears to have 0-15km added onto all warps to objects/bookmarks and such. To counter this, a 0km warpin option had been added.
The tests were done warping between 2 gates (Orvolle and FD-MLJ gates in PF-346) in a Caldari Shuttle (should this be a factor on the tests).
New 0km Warp-In Option to a Gate
Orvolle Gate Test (0km warp in): 14km 13km 9.2km 11km 13km
FD-MLJ Gate Test (0km warp in): 2.3km 0.2km 0km 15km 13km
Very odd results, seemingly alternating between being on target and off target (as i was simply going between gates) but then stops going on target at all.
I thought for a minute about how this would affect instas, and tried a work-around. These tests use 2 instas, created at the distances specified, behind the gates.
~8km Insta Workaround (0km warp-in)
Orvolle Gate Test (8.5km insta): 0km 0km 0km 0.8km 7.8km
FD-MLJ Gate Test (8.2km insta): 2.6km 4.3km 3.2km 4km 0km
As can be seen, there is the same alternation between on target and off target. However, the distance you can be off target is limited by this workaround to a maximum of the instas distance to the gate (if greater than 7.5km, otherwise it is 15-distance).
And this will change how?
Bearing in mind this change is new, and probably not fully implemented..
The change appears not to rule out the continued use of instas, as they still give a large benefit of use. If insta bookmarks stay on target with the change, all that is needed for people to do is change their default warpin setting to about 7.5km.
I don't really trust my results, as they alternate and tend to one side a lot, but they are just a quick test. Theory backs up the fact that instas will still give a more accurate warpin to a gate (if the chance over 0-15km addin is correct, they double the chance of landing on the gate, if it is biased to be in the middle, it infact gives an even greater benefit).
So, for the moment, instas are not dead, at least not in the current changes on SiSi. However, instas have been made imperfect, and slightly random, by this change.
EDIT: Someone posted before me.. but mine has tests!
